TAG Heuer History
1860: Edouard Heuer starts up watchmaking in St Imier in Switzerland.
1933: Autavia dashboard instruments for racecars, with a 8 day power reserve movement.
1955: Heuer Twin time watch released.
1958: Jack Heuer joins the company. Heuer Super Autavia first introduced.
1964: The Carrera chronograph, designed by Jack Heuer was created.
1969: The Autavia & Carrera automatic chronographs were introduced with a bezel. Heuer Monaco introduced in 1969 in honour of the Monaco Grand Prix. The Monaco was revolutionary for being the first automatic square cased water resistant chronograph. Jo Siffert became the first racing driver to be a watch ambassodor for the brand.
1970: Steve McQueen wore a blue dial Heuer Monaco (1133) during the making of the Le Mans film in 1970.
The TAG Heuer Monaco is a cult classic watch, regardless of your interest in motor racing. The Monaco has become an iconic chronograph, the original blue version distinguished by its square chronograph counters at 3 & 9 o’clock and the red-orange hands and blue alligator strap. While the Monaco will always be known for it’s motor racing influences, it is still a watch with timeless luxury and is as desirable for those who want an everyday watch as it is to those looking for a sports chronograph.
1972: Montreal Chronograph is launched. Heuer creates Le Mans Centigraph for the Ferrari racing team.
1975: The Heuer Monza chronograph is launched.
1978: The 1000 series is released.
1982: The 2000 series is released.
1985: Heuer joins the TAG Group to then become Tag Heuer.
1986: Formula 1 model is created, several models later still going today.
1987: The S/EL series is launched, with the popular s shaped links, still seen today in the Link models.
1990: 1500, 4000, and Super 2000 are all created.
1992: Tag Heuer is the official timekeeper of F1.
6000 series is introduced.
1997: The slick Tag Heuer Kiruim range is released.
1998: 2000 Classic, 2000 Exclusive are launched.
1999: The Alter Ego series is released. s/el renamed Link, Tag Heuer joins LVMH group.
